Our world is suffering many crucial difficulties. Climate change is one of the most hazardous problems that our planet Earth is facing. Many countries are suffering the consequences, demanding for help, and trying to solve the problem. However, some countries and governments are considering this problem as a fictional story, or a prediction of the world’s gloomy future. Climate change is a result of human activity, media disinformation, and economical issues.
First, human activity and wastes affected climate change for three main reasons. Our consumption of non-renewable energy takes the bigger part of making climate change worse. For example, we use our cars going to work every day. It is our only type of transportation, especially here in Kuwait. Our cars are polluting the air, which makes it worse and worse for our planet. The emission of our transportation makes Earth warmer and warmer day after another. “Highway vehicles release about 1.7 billion tons of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere each year-mostly in the form of carbon dioxide (CO2) – contributing to global climate change” (Geartechnology.com, 2015). Moreover, the destruction of forests adds up more of carbon dioxide to the air, which heats up the climate. As a result, the ice start melting and the sea levels start rising up. Ultimately, it causes other environmental disasters. Another bad effect of human activity is factories’ smoke. As a matter of a fact, factories play a big role in causing climate change. Its emission of carbon dioxide makes ozone gets closer to the Earth’s surface. Consequently, it causes some health problems to humans and animals.
Secondly, media disinformation has contributed in confusing the public about climate change in many ways. What they are doing is making fun about this crucial issue insensitively. For instance, you may see some journalists taking this matter in a sarcastic way. Maybe they are doing this to support some politicians or economical figures. Furthermore, media is pretending that climate change doesn’t exist. It’s not educating the societies about the environmental issues. If media makes more of raising awareness campaigns, people will learn more about climate change and how they could take action. Unfortunately, some media platforms are calling environmentalists as frauds and liars. They claim that these people are doing this only to show off and seek fame. Media is obviously confusing the public with this disinformation.
Finally, there are some certain reasons why economical issues are against the possible solutions of climate change. One reason is that reducing our consumption of fossil fuel will cause a huge lost for a lot of countries. Some countries are depending on fossil fuel as their main resource. Additionally, those countries wouldn’t give up on fossil fuel that easy because it’s giving them an important position in the economical world and a great income. “Major fossil fuel companies have known for decades that their products -oil, natural gas, and coal- cause global warming. Their own scientists told them so more than 30 years ago. In response, they decided to deceive shareholders, politicians, and the public -you!- about the facts and risks of global warming” (Union of Concerned Scientists, 2017). Although some global companies are participating in protecting the environment, still lots of them aren’t. They are not doing any move because it has been always against their business. For example, some companies are using plastic products and selling them. Obviously, taking action is a huge lost of money regardless of our planet’s future. Furthermore, there are politicians who are taking climate change as a threat for them and for their positions. In result, they take it from an economical point of view, and they use their available weapons to stop any move from spreading. Only to protect their allies, political positions, and personal future.
Climate change isn’t a prediction of the future. It’s real and happening. We must take action before it’s too late. In conclusion, human activity, media disinformation, and economical issues have contributed to climate change.
